Need Advice: Traveling with BP from Texas to Montana.
Hey Everyone!
I am in the process of moving from TX to MT due to a new job. In a few days I will be driving to MT (~1600 miles) with my BP and Mom. The trip will be split over three days. I need advice about the best way to transport my bp. I know that they can be stored in tubs. However, I need details such as how many holes to put in the tub and what size tub. (My bp is almost 5 ft long).
My major concern is making sure that he does not get too hot. Would I be able to leave him for 5-10 minutes at anytime in the car? My mom doesn't want me to bring him. She wants me to get rid of him. She is arguing that we would not be able to stop anywhere with a snake (for example to get lunch). What are your thoughts? I know he can't be kept in the car alone for long (as with any animal).
Any thoughts and advice would be welcome. Thank you.

My first thought is to ship him ahead of time to someone who is already at your destination and you trust to pick him up and care for him. You can go to the shipyourreptiles.com website and read up on the proper , and legal way to ship your reptile. There definitely is a safe and legal way to do it. Less thing to worry about. Happy trails. :)

Wow! I hadn't even considered shipping him. However, that may actually be the best way to go.
The only thing is I would have to wait a couple of months to ship him due to the high temps. It is averaging 100 degrees where I am.

Your bp will be fine for a three day car trip. Make sure you skip its last feeding to reduce the chance of a mess in the tub.
You're overthinking the tub and the holes. It's not it's permanent home so just find something that will fit it comfortably. On my two day move, all the bps were kept in snake bags so don't worry about choosing a tub too small (I mean reasonably small, don't try to fit it in hatchling tub or anything). Put several air holes on each side and you're done.
5-10 minutes at a time is fine, especially if the windows are cracked. Make sure he's not in direct sunlight. If it's cooler out then you can go longer.
With regards to shipping, I wouldn't deal with the hassle of trying to find somebody on the other end and pay the shipping fee for somewhere I'm going anyway. I'm assuming the 100+ average is your daytime temp but as the shipping origin, it's your nighttime and then the destination daytime that's more important. It's probably going to be too hot to safely ship though depending on the destination temp.

I moved from MI to AZ I kept my bp who was two feet in a rub with a lid on it that had a handle and put some holes in the top. I taped brown paper to the side so she felt hidden. I kept her in my lap the whole time and she had no problems moving she ate right when we got to our new home! Six years is a long time to have a pet and I hope you can keep Xander he sounds v dear to you!!! xx

You will be fine to bring with you.you can keep some water bottles cold in a cooler and place them against the side of the tub to stop to eat.or put the snake in a snake bag in a purse or carry bag to bring in with you. Tub size 32qt would be fine a dozen holes is plenty I use a solder iron.
