Sub saharan

Are sub saharan genetic or not,

It is not like pastel where they have it or they don't, it is not monogenetic. It is a trait from multiple different genes, called polygenetic. When you breed a volta to a normal ball python, you can have various mixes of how big the offspring will get, chances however are none will be as big as the volta. The trait appears to be concentrated in one area, so I would assume it would be from high homozygosity. It is like having a super pastel, super cinny, super cinny, super banana, super enchi all in one snake and trying to make that snake again with a normal. We have no idea how many genes actually control the size of them though. could be less could be more.

A side note, sub saharan is a terrible name for them, as the sub saharan region covers the entire ball python habitat, giant or not.. I have read that most of the giants come from the volta region in ghana.

Don't believe everything you hear on them either about how they eat "so great" because I bought one myself.... it really is hell trying to get her to eat. I've had her for over a year and it doesn't matter how big she "could" get because it's hard to get her to eat anything!
