Dumeril's Boa?

Does anyone know anybody specific who breeds/sells nice Dumeril's Boas? I actually... had no idea that they existed until yesterday, when someone mentioned them in another thread. Or I would have searched and gotten one awhile ago.

And if you know, what's a normal price range for them? I'd also prefer to not get shammed.

Cool snake, I have the bug for one myself. But I must hold off for a while.

I don't know who sells them. However, I do know that they are not as prolific as Boas, that's for sure!

They are pretty cool boas. No color morphs I know of, but their patterning is impressive enough. Check out kingsnake.com or fauna classifieds. Bound to find one on there.

I actually adore how their head and eyes look, for some reason... on top of their weirdly cool pattern. I checked on fauna, but none at the moment. I'm not sure how often they'll prop up, but I guess I'll just have to check every few days :s

Looks like LLL Reptile has some. For a pet store dealer they have a good reputation. I got an albino bp from them years ago that was amazing. Produced the highest contrast albinos I have ever seen. Came perfectly healthy and eating.

Oh nice! I didn't see that there. LLL Reptile's prices are generally bumped by ~25% though, compared to smaller breeders/sellers. But if Dumeril's Boas are more rare, I suppose I will have to buy from them hahah

I think $129 is right in the ball park of fair.

I will be going to the Reptile Super Show in Los Angeles in a couple weeks actually, and I just realized- are Dumeril's Boas common enough that they usually sell at reptile expos like this, if anyone knows?

There's a dumerils boa facebook page with several breeders selling, they aren't too hard to find usually and run 100-200. Mine was 150. They are a great looking boa imo.

Oooh, the super show? Jealous! I so want to go, but I can't!

I've seen some Dumeril's at expos before. Just something to consider... you're still pretty new to owning snakes, it seems. You just got Cake recently, didn't you? These boas get fairly large, and are very strong (I've seen adult females in person and handled them). Do you really think you're ready for that kind of step up? If I were you, I would stick to the ball pythons for a bit. I truly think you should take a step back and think a little more before you get another snake, especially something with the potential to grow so large. Another thing... do you have the means to do a proper quarantine? I know you got your first ball python recently, and buying more snakes right now without a proper quarantine is not the best idea. A new owner shouldn't have to deal with RIs or mites in all of their snakes, so quarantine is incredibly important. Why not stick to owning ball pythons for a few months before you do anything more? I see no problem with getting a few more balls if you quarantine. You're still getting used to the behavior of a ball python from the looks of things. I will be the first to admit I expanded my collection a bit too quickly, and I had a few headaches as a result. Everything ended up being resolved, but the added stress is not fun. There are advantages to staying small for a bit. You can reduce feeding costs and really get to know your animals. If you're absolutely sure you're ready and you quarantine, I won't try to stop you from expanding your collection. I just feel like you should think about this a little bit first. :)
