    Rat mom fostering mice!
Yesterday I was given 10 mouse pinkies from my coworker who gave me the spotted python and boa.

I feed live, so I didn't want to freeze them, and I currently have no mice. I searched all online and couldn't find an answer, so I tried it, hoping the rats wouldn't have a snack.

I put all 10 pinkies in a breeder tub with a rat mom and she took them right in and started to nurse. It's almost been 24 hours, and she is still fostering them, so for now its a success!

I have done this with a few random fuzzies that didn't get eaten, the rat milk makes them develop very strangely. The ones I had ended up with super long legs/tail and really long fur, but still a small body. I don't know what sort of long term effects they would have, as mine got fed off at around 3-4 weeks.

I did this with some babies from 1 week until 5 weeks. Only one died, the runt who was pathetically small. Rats are great fosters.

I'm thinking all I need to worry about now is catching them before they are big enough / active enough to escape the 1/2" construction mesh.

My pet store does this, they have a rack system and the rats are almost always fostering baby mice.
