so i caught Elphaba doing something interesting the other night.

she was crawling around her tank as usual after dark.

but then she did this. she went into her middle of the tank rock hide and then i heard some rustling. do u see what she's doing?

she was in the hide, burrowed into the substrate and came out the other side. so cool! i watched her stay in this position for a bit.

i left the room for a bit and when i came back, she was fully out of her hide and the substrate, hanging out on her log hide on the cool side of the tank.

anyway i think it's really cool that she burrows. but i also wanted to check in with the forum to make sure this wasn't wierd or unsual beahvior that should be of concern.

    also note that...
-- during my first week with her, she burrowed a lot. i found her often underneath substrate against the glass and another time sleeping right under her water bowl.

It's perfectly normal, in the wild ball pythons are terrestrial snakes and during the day they hide underground in termite mounds. They come out at night to hunt.

When I make the Aspen about 3 inches deep my Adult Boa will burrow and hide 100% for for a week or more. It is really hard to find her nostrils just level with the substrate.

Gotta remember, they are ambush hunters!

If there is somewhere they can dig or squeeze into they will find a way to do it lol.

Thank you for your post! One of my own ball pythons, Guinness, loves to burrow but none of my other snakes do. I was wondering if it was also abnormal, like I wasn't providing an adequate hide or something. I'm glad to see it's normal and that she's just having fun destroying her cage so I get to fix it every morning.
