tank temps

Here is another tank temp question. My BP tank is set up with the following: Glass Aquarium with one under tank heater on the warm side and a basking light on the warm side. The day time heat with the UTH & light ( 100 watt ) is around 90 degress on the warm side and the cool side is around 80. The problem is that night time it gets what I think is too cold. Last night the center of the tank tempature read 65 degrees. Is this too cold and what can I do to suppliment the heat for night times? She seems to like the cool side as she spends most of her day there and then moves to the warm side for night. Any help or comments would be great.

65 is a little low for a ball python. Try replacing the light with a CHE that can be left on all the time or add an additional UTH for night time. Unless you're going to breed her, there is no need for a night time drop.

What kind of lid do you have on top ? I have a screen lid , and I cut a piece of cardboard , to cover 2/3rds of the screen - it has helped me immensely with keeping temps up .

I have a screen that is now covered 3/4 with wax paper and foil to keep heat and moisture in. I have since bought a infrared buld to run 24/7 and it keeps themps at warm 95 degrees, middle tank 85 degrees and cool at 80 degrees. The uth is on the warm side as well. This has seamed to fix the problem. Thaks for the help.

thats great, just watch your hot side temp. any more than 95 is to hot, you may wanna try to lower it to 90-93

Thanks, I will keep a watch on the hot side. I have noticed that Reba is alot more active now that the heat is more consistant.
