Feeding size. Game of trial and error...
Okay so ive had my bp for 2 weeks now. She is 8 months old. She has been fed live her entire life until i got her and immediately switched her to f/t with no problem. However there is a problem. Being that she is my first, im having problems dialing in a good size/ feeding regiment for her. So far her 2 meals since I have had her have been adult mice. She doesnt even constrict them, she just strikes and gulps it down in about 10 minutes. I offered her a rat pup 2 days ago because i feel as if adult mice are way to small and not sufficient enough for her size. She struck at the rat pup and constricted it, managed to get about a quarter of the pup in her mouth and could not hack the rest and ended up not being able to take it down. This comes as a huge surprise to me being that these snakes usually are able to handle pretty large prey for their size. The rat pup is not even that much larger than adult mice, and especially with her age and size it kind of baffles me that it didnt work well. Anyway, i proceeded to feed her what i normally do and she took it just fine. The next night i offered another, she showed no interest and appeared to be not hungry at all. So, i dont know maybe the mice are working well for her and i need not worry. I just want to make sure I dont deprive her of what she really needs so she can continue to grow. I guess I shouldnt be complaining being that she has eaten at the least. Give me some input/advice if you dont mind, it would be much appreciated. Hopefully im not bugging to much on this forum, its just that everyone is so helpful and there is some great info on here. Thanks much - G
