I have a metal band. Can that hurt my baby?

So I have a band, and a ball pyhton? I love playing music for him but I'm scared to bring him to band practice. But, he seems to really like my music and I love hold him while playing guitar without an amp. Please tell me I would love for cuddles to join the band!!!

The snake doesn't love your music because snakes can't hear. They can feel noises that are loud enough to cause vibrations, but are essentially deaf. It probably wouldn't bother him if you just held him while playing guitar in your room or something as long as it was without an amp (I think the vibrations from an amp would probably bother him) but I'd strongly advise against taking him to band practice. It's stressful for them to be handled for extended periods and even moreso when you're handling them in conditions that aren't proper (ie; I might sit in my 80 degree, 60% humidity snake room and hold my BP, but I won't sit in my 65 degree, 40% living room and hold her). There is nothing beneficial for the snake in taking him to band practice with you, you're the only one that would benefit from that.

That would be absolutely far too stressful for the snake. Like DV said, they don't hear the same way people do, so I doubt it's appreciating your music in any way (sorry, snakes just don't have the capacity for appreciating the musical arts). Band practice would LOUD and BRIGHT with no place to escape to or hide, no hotspot, not enough humidity... and can often take hours. That would be tantamount to torture for the little critter.

I've owned a few ball pythons for a while now and will sometimes hold them for hours at a time (like when watching TV or a movie) and I'll just let them chill in my hands or on my lap, and not any of them have ever seemed the least bit stressed out during or after doing that, in fact - they love the attention and getting out of their cage. I've also found that the more you hold your bp, the less skittish they will be. this is just what I've noticed after a while with all my girls, I think ball pythons do best when given lots of love and attention, so that's what I do and I couldn't have better bp's (look and personality wise)

I've heard the vibrations from being on a car floor can bother them so I think amplified music would bother them too. A lot of people on here don't condone even handling your snake for long periods of time. I personally disagree with those and think snakes have the compacity to enjoy human interaction. By all means do what you wish with your baby, but i personally would not recommend having your snake around amplified vibrations.

Handling ball pythons regularly will certainly desensitize them to human interaction, and I do think there is some merit in taking your pet out of it's enclosure for some enrichment, but BPs are a shy, retiring species. They do not seek human interaction, they are not mammals and do not need socialization to be happy the same way you or I, or a dog or cat would. Every time you handle a snake, you put at least some stress on it. Each animal is an individual, and will handle the same level of stress differently than the next, same as any living thing. Stress is also cumulative, and can add up over time. You might not see any behavioral changes right away. You might not even see it at all in the snake's life time other than having your animal live only 20-25 years, rather than 25-30+.

Hold your snake, enjoy your snake, by all means that's why we keep them! But also remember to take your pet's needs into consideration, and put them before your own personal gratification.
