Probiotics for an older dog on a raw diet
My dog is an 11 year old beagle/boxer mix that just started on a raw diet. We have been doing chicken quarters without the skin. Her poop is a bit loose at this point. I heard that probiotics can be beneficial. Is this true or is just a false statement?

That said, probiotics can't hurt and do help if there's a problem adjusting to a diet change. Yogurt is a good source.
Thank you very much for answering my question. I was thinking that yogurt might help a bit.

Yogurt is good if it is plain/real yogurt.
Pumpkin can help with firmness as well.
Often, chicken is hard to start them on. I usually recommend turkey, or try the tubes of ground chicken with bone.
There is nothing wrong with probiotics either.
It may take some time for the transition, but eventually you will have small, fairly scentless, hard waste from your dog that disappears in the summer grass.

Here is a pic of my dog. She is 11 years old and barely able to move some days so she has become overweight. She is on supplements and meds for the arthritis in her joints. She is also on the raw diet to help her lose weight. The vet said raw is best especially in her case. Her name is Hailey.
