Ambient Heat

So Siagi's enclosure seemed a bit on the cool side reading 78-82 degrees ambient. Tucker is in a different room. He reads 82-91 on his gradient which I think is pretty good. Anyway, I have an UTH on both of course and added an infrared bulb to Siagi's digs last night. Ambient now reads 81-93 from side to side. Seems good, but leads me to the question...Is it OK to leave it on 24/7? Never used an IR bulb before. There is plenty of indirect light for a day night cycle in the room so I wasn't worried about that. Humidity runs 52-65. Welcome to North Carolina weather.

80 ambient is fine. If you give a hotspot with uth the surface temperature on that side will rise but the ambient temp never needs to be 90.

And as long as conditions are met you can leave it 24/7, that's the purpose of a temperature gradient, let the snake pick and choose.

My room temp is 72 and my heat tape is 88. No lights or additional heat. Try to keep your room temp at 75 and hotspot 88-90 and that is all you need. You don't need a day/night cycle but it won't hurt to have one either.

Fed Ex just dropped off my thermal gun. Seems my analog temps are off. Go figure. Both enclosures are running 80-87. Happy snakes. :snake:

You don't want your ambients to be above low 80s. Recent work is showing that previous care guides had snakes at much too high of temps.

That's about what mine is for temps. Low 70's room temp, hot spot 87 to 89, all I have is heat tape in a rack system. Everyone's doing well.

Then I am going to go with what I have. Everyone seems happy so unless I hear otherwise, I'll run with it. Thanks for all the responses.
