Thermostat probe - where do I put it?
Hello, everyone. I'm not the most outspoken member of this community but when I have a question, I'm never afraid to seek help from you knowledgeable herpers. I have a 4-month-old boa constrictor imperator (I know, I know, BP Husbandrymis the wrong category for this, but it's not really about her and I know I'll get a faster response here than over in the boa section) and I'm in the process of assembling her new T8 cage from Animal Plastics.
Now. I have an 80watt RHP from Reptile Basics and a Herpstat 2 Redline. This is my question- Where on earth do I mount the probe? I know it needs to be inside the cage, close to the surface of the RHP, but how and where do I mount it? Anyone who owns an RHP from Reptile Basics, what did you do with yours? There doesn't seem to be a 'frame' around the thing for the probe to safely rest against without coming in direct contact with the heated surface. Pictures would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
Re: Thermostat probe - where do I put it?
That's a great idea, and I think I'd like to try it that way myself, but is that one of the RHPs from Pro Products you have? Mine doesn't have that frame around it where I can attach the strap to.
What I should have said was, I won't let the probe touch the RHP directly but with the way Reptile Basics has their RHPs, I don't know how I can attach anything to hold the probe in place without burning it (like the plastic strap)
Re: Thermostat probe - where do I put it?
There's a thin border around the RHP that I didn't think I could fit a hook on, and I thought it would heat up with the rest of the heater, but turns out I was wrong. The sides only get a little warm. So I went out and got similar attachments to yours and was able to fit the probe where I need it. Thanks for the help!
