Hello !

Hello!

I am devenco, I am 24 years old and always been fascinated by animals and breeding, but it had to be said reptiles always had a very special place in my heart!
Sadly when I was younger my parents did not like reptiles, so I mostly kept fish and even bred them from a young age (around 5-6). Moved out on my 17th and therefore never really had the finances to pursue my dreams!
Then got a girlfriend afraid of reptiles... So it took a while to convince her (6 years). Secretly I always kept researching and looking at reptiles (hours on end in pet shops and zoos)!

So earlier this year she said she allowed 1 small snake in the house... A Pantherophis guttatus, but from the moment she said yes (january/february) my reptile passion and breeding passion went from a fire to a blaze...
And now ... we have 5 snakes :D 1 corn 4 ball pythons, fun fact my girlfriend LOVES the ball pythons and their behaviour! (not the head yet though lol).

So as of next year I will breed these awesome animals ! Maybe even have my first clutch this year! (more on that later)

Now I had a question about my maybe gravid ball python!

got her a few weeks back so all information is not from me but from former owner, I will keep track or everything in maps etc <3 :)
she was paired back in March to a Pastave (so pastave X pastel) and a lock was seen. She also has stopped eating since february!
This morning she was laying in her water bowl! Now would this be her ovulation or does she just like swimming? She has muscles like a champ so palpating is not an option (yet due to my inexperience with palpating)

And next week we will get a 0.1 normal of around 2,2 kg (just layed so normally around 2,7kg) which has a little bit of an attitude :D!

A home made one ?

Clamps on the front are for.... girlfriend comfort since they keep the tubs in.

also the male pewter bee was in a "hold" tub since he sprinted off into the room while i was getting his shed out of his tub

I trust you have quarantined her from the rest of your snakes. Two of my girls soaked in there water bowls before shedding. It turned out to be their pre-ovulation shed. Neither of the girls had ever soaked in the bowl before then, nor did they soak again before their pre-lay shed. I think it was a way of not only preparing the skin for shed, but it was during the period where they are bowl wrapping and staying on the cool side so it may be it was cooling them as well. One of the girls spent the entire week of the shed process in the bowl. That could be what you are seeing but no way of knowing until you just go through it. Best of luck.

Yeah she is :)

And yes that is what I am thinking to ... But it is indeed just a waiting game... if she soon sheds then it will give me a lot more confidence :)
The incubator is ready if she lays for me :)

She has been laying on the cool side in the morning/night a lot and then really tightly curls up on the warm spot for a while and this morning she was in her bowl so fingers crossed! :D

One of my girls is doing the exact same thing right now... I noticed last night that she was suddenly going into shed, and when I refilled her water bowl, she plunked as much of herself in there as she could manage. Never seen her soak before.
Fingers crossed for both of us! :D

Welcome to the forum D! Glad to see your mom gave in to your desires to keep the reptiles in her house. Now it's up to you to be responsible and don't allow these snakes to slither away while you are distracted. The number one thing you must do is make sure they are all secured before you move on to the next thing whatever that may be! You have a nice collection but you MUST be responsible! The female is in the water soaking bc the water is cool and she probably has started to move the eggs further down the reproductive tract. Good luck.

And actually I moved out when i was 17 ;) Girlfriend finally allowed it after 6 years in our house :)

And yes I know ;) The male was actually the one I was working with always kept an eye on him, saw he was very inquisitive of the room so I grabbed my tub on wheels (where he is in on the picture) and put him in there while I was getting all his shed out of his tub :)
Then when I was done I picked him out of the tub checked if everything was shed / no stuck shed then he went back in his tub ! :)

It is my responsibility to care for them and keep them save indeed ! ;)

An I do hope so that she is hoping for a nice healthy clutch then and babies :)

Oh, ok your gf. Sorry. Yeah, you will be fine. I was just trying to emphasize responsibility as it relates to escapes and knowing where the snakes are at any given moment. :gj:
