Hello! :>
Hello everyone!
My name is Roo / Sam (whichever you want to use), and I am brand new to the herp world. I've been stalking the forums for the past week, and I am making plans for my first bp in the next few months.
Ironically enough, I was a solid ophidiophobe as of a few weeks ago. The stuff of my nightmares consisted of natural disasters and snakes. Browsing through pet stores, I cringed through the reptile aisle and skittered off to look at fish or chinchillas. A visit to a pet store in search of a new betta fish led me to meeting another customer who had an insanely friendly ball python wrapped around her neck.
I winced when she invited me to pet it, and I shook my head with a quick, "Heck no."
She grinned and replied with, "I was you months ago. C'mere. Pet him."
So I did. I petted this ball python (probably sub adult sized?) and I was in love. A lifetime afraid of snakes, and suddenly I'm making plans to get my own!
This forum has been so helpful in letting me know about the care of bps, and just how wonderful they can be. It might be a couple of months before I can get my first ball, but I am so insanely excited. I've gone back to that same pet store and held the same ball, and was completely in awe of the experience.
Here's another big hello to everyone, and to looking forward to a long time here!
(Please bear with me and my future questions! I only want to provide the best for my eventual bp, and I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with reptiles. Only the cats that would eat them xD )

Re: Hello! :>
Welcome to the forum and an addictive hobby! You can never stop at one. Are you planning to get a normal BP or a morph?

Re: Hello! :>
@Mustang5 - Thanks! I think I might start with a normal. There's a definite maybe on getting a morph in the future!

Re: Hello! :>
Welcome to this amazing hobby! Get ready to spend thousands of dollars and eat ramen noodles for the rest of your days, this hobby is addictive!
It warms my heart to know there are still open minded people out there willing to get over their fear of snakes, they are such unique and wonderful animals.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations for getting over your fear!

Welcome, and good job doing your research before giving in to temptation! Can't wait to read about your first acquisition. :)

Thanks, everyone!
@PassionFruitReptiles - I'm already student living off of ramen noodles, so I don't have much left to lose xD I'm still really surprised at how quickly I've fallen in love with my former greatest fear, but there's no going back!
@Fidget - one thing I can say for myself is that I research obsessively before I commit to anything. I've been scouting out pet stores (I was at one today, actually) and at Target I looked at 32 qt tubs as a starter, while working on a 20 long tank. I've been looking at hides, considering making my own, and I want to make sure everything is ready to go before I bring a ball home.
Honestly, I've learned so much about bps and snakes in general just from this forum, and I have to stop myself from longing after morphs and hunting down local breeders. Thankfully there's a ReptiDay in Norfolk coming up in July! I can't wait!!
