The Incredable shrinking hide

Walter is growing like crazy but still insists on using this hide even if he doesn't fit anymore. I did notice now he's been going over to his warm hide at night but comes back here during the day. The warm hide is one of those tree trunk kind that ever since I modified the back hole so he wouldn't get stuck he has refused to use it. Hae to hit the expo this weekend and get him a new crib.

Aww, he probably just really likes to well be a ball, lol. My Ruby has two log hides and she won't sleep in them. Instead, she balls up on top of them in the most awkward spot. Also, she likes to lay completely stretched out on her branch. Meanwhile both of my Redtail boas curl up into little balls. I think they all have identity issues. Lol.

I have a similar problem in that all store bought hides end up looking like that with my 5 ft Ball as well.
I just can't find any natural types large enough. Except for this 1/2 split log which many folk trash on the forum as being useless. But she barely squeezes in and does use it often.

I love that they do this, I have even seen pictures where almost nothing is in the hide but the snakes head. It always cracks me up. My boy has gotten stuck on his old hide recently. I have gotten him new hides that are the right size and right now he has a new cool hide, a new hot hide, and his old hide which is also over the heat mat. I am constantly finding him in the too small hide with half of his body poking out the sides. We joke that it is his turtle shell since he seems to just rest it on his back and call it good. I sure doesn't look comfortable, but he seems happy enough. I had originally figured he would be relieved to have larger ones and abandon that one entirely, but no such luck lol. He uses all three but I am always amazed by his willingness to cram himself into something clearly way too small for him. :P

Half log hides are usually not recommended because they have two openings and may make your ball python feel insecure.

I wasn't able to find hides big enough for my boa, so what I did was go out and purchase a huge circular rubbermaid storage tub. I used a soldering iron to cut out an entrance (made sure it was dull) and then siliconed fake huge leaves from the dollar store onto it. It's cheap and looks really nice! Just an idea :)

I've used half-log hides, but make sure that one end is up against the side of that tank. On the outside of the tank at that spot is a piece of black construction paper that I can flap-lift as needed to do checks.
