Strange behavior

Weeks before a shed starts, I see a difference in behavior with my BP. He will stop using his hide and get under the paper towel floor I have in the cage. Does anyone else ever notice a change in somewhat normal routine behavior weeks before any sure signs of a shed are obvious ?

Mine seem to get a lot less active and one of them gets really grumpy. She sits and hisses at nothing. :rofl:

Sure enough....12 days later my BP's eyes are going grey/blue. I can tell that far in advance, maybe even 14 days before my BP is going to shed. I do notice the change in behavior.

Some of mine act grumpy/less active for a week or so beforehand. My Woma python just recently shed with me for the first time, and I was perplexed by why he was in his hide for almost a solid week, when he's usually slithering around all day. All back to normal now after the shed.

My BP gets testy when he's in shed. He hides a lot more too.

is probably an attempt to find humidity. BP's in the wild would find high humidity under ground. Your BP is probably following an ancient program that says, get moist pre-shed+ find moisture under ground= go under substrate.

Good call nighttrain......makes good sense. I've also come to the conclusion that they don't see that well for starters (clear eye not cloudy). It's almost like they use 2 senses to decide what something is. If they don't get both...it's not a mouse. My BP will pass over a thawed mouse if that mouse cools down....He obviously smells it but passes clean over it. If I heat the mouse back up...he will snap it up. Even if I don't shake it and its laying in his feeding cage. So a cooled down ,motionless mouse is pretty much invisible to my BP. A warm motionless mouse....he sees it.
