Introductions! :D
Hello! I'm new to the world of Herp, my husband has made a convert of me - we've just acquired our first snake (he assures me it will not be our last, so I've already laid down a few ground rules on how big and how friendy... how many is still up for discussion.
We just acquired our first snake, a Super Pastel BP (M), and I have not named him yet... I also don't have a good picture, because he was friendly at the shop, but he's been a real shybe since we got home (which I understand is normal, we're not bothering him until it's feed-time so he can get used to the new environment). I'm also helping my husband build an enclosure for a Carpet Python, he had his heart set on one of those first, but had to warm me up to the idea of owning a snake... which he did a little too well, so we got "mine" first!
The rest of the family is comprised of the 4-legged variety: a Husky and a German Shepherd - he's 7 yrs and the chillest buddy ever, she's 6 months and I don't know where she gets all her energy, but she's sweet and is learning how not to be a terror. The 4-legged and 0-legged "kids" will never mingle. ;)
I've been lurking for a couple days, but figured I may as well say hello now that I've officially adopted into the club. Lurking is my general forum M.O, but I'll contribute if/when I feel like I've got something worth contributing. :)
Cheers!

Welcome to the forum and good luck fighting the reptile addiction. What do you plan on using for making the future. Carpet cage from. I would avoid melamine and buy HDPE plastic sheets is only 60 for a 4x8 sheet and is 100% water proff and last forever and very easy to clean it can be perchased at manards. There are a bunch of DIY topics on this forum.

Thanks guys! :)
@Mustang5 - we picked him up from a shop called Arizona Reptile Center. My husband visited 3 Herp stores in our area (didn't bother with the "big box" stores) and the people at ARC were the friendliest and most knowledgeable, and their store was the most specialized. Every customer in there had only good things to say, and the snakes were healthy and looked good - I got to hold a couple Balls, which was really the tipping point from "okay these aren't so bad" to "hey this is kind of awesome!" and we picked up the whole starter kit at the same time. :) I'm looking forward to him coming out of his hole and being my friend!
@frostysBP - DH is a workshop enthusiast, his dad was in the business of building houses for many years and passed on that hands-on DIY spirit and know-how. If you'll believe it, we've almost got the Carpet enclosure finished - the base is actually a repurposed TV Console. I'm not a maker like him (he's into power-tools, I'm into paint) so I couldn't really tell you all the details, but we've layered the inside with some kind of laminate sheeting, and he's reinforced the sole remaining drawer as a hidey-hole with a hole cut over it in the floor of the enclosure for the snake to move in and out of if it likes. I've played 20 Questions with him to make sure it's snake-safe and snake-proof, and I'm assured that nothing is going to be getting out of this thing, and there's going to be good light and ventilation. I trust he's done his homework... he's been a snake-lover since he was a kid (his dad is not herp-friendly, so he never got to own a snake growing up).

Thanks! I'm really enjoying hearing about the new clutches - DH seems to have it in his head that it might be fun to try our hand at breeding sometime in the future... I'm starting to form the opinion that he's trying to introduce as many babies into the house as he can to try and jumpstart my baby-clock. ;) (It's not working.)
