    Pastel Pied or Normal Pied??
    Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out if this is a Pastel pied or Normal pied. I was told she is pastel but she doesn't look any different from my regular pied. What do you guys think? Is there any way to know for sure if she is pastel?

    Thanks! Tyler

Nice. I think one distinguishing characteristic to differentiate normal pieds from pastel s is the eye color. True pastel pieds have green eyes.:salute:

Thanks guys. That is what I was thinking. She looks normal to me. Like you said Albert, I read that the pastel pieds have green eyes. You just can't see that from the pick the breeder sent me. I guess I'll ask him to send another pic of the eyes.

http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file.../0/9/tiger.jpgCheck his eye color. There are other characteristics to differentiate them but I am not exactly clear on the others.

Thanks Albert. That's how I picture a pastel pied looking. If not as bright a yellow I would at least expect her to have less black on her. How old is yours pictured? I wonder if pastel pieds "brown-out" like normal pastels do.

I would say that it is a pastel pied.

Other than the eyes, you can look for:

The blushed out top of head - which that one has
The black speckling throughout the lower portion of the pattern - which that one has
The faded out grey/black portions around the neck - which that one appears to have
The non-black colors being more yellow than orange - which that one has

If you can get a better pic, one that isn't so dark, it would be easier to see.

    Hope this helps.

I'm going to say yours is a pastel pied Tyler. It is a little on the darker side, but it does have the characteristics of a pastel pied. As John said, the pattern is there, the faded head is there, the color it does have is more yellow. Pastel pieds do indeed brown out like any other pastel does.

It does take time to acquaint yourself with the different pied morphs, but once you learn "the look" it becomes much easier. Your girl has the Pastel Pied "look" to her. Maybe she isn't the most amazing example, but I suspect she is indeed a pastel pied.
