Aggressive cornsnake

Hello,

I have two corn snakes, both from the same mother. They are in different terrariums, not together.

The one snake is super well behaved and has no problem handling or feeding. The second snake is insane....

She is fine for a few days after feeding but soon as she gets hungry she lunges at everything that moves around her. You can't get near her without getting bitten. Any ideas?

When my BP is hungry he gets grumpy as well. I had a corn snake for 8 years that was always a bit nippy at times never really could figure it out. I'm sure others have suggestions and ideas.

Some snakes are gonna be feisty no matter what you do. That said, how old and how large is she? How much and how often are you feeding her? Could she still be hungry? I have 2 kings that are close in age but the younger one eats a bit more and is larger.

Hey. She is a year old and I will have to weigh her/ measure her and get back. But she is the same size as the other one and gets fed the same. 4 pinkies a week. Which sounds like a lot to me.

I read somewhere that maybe it's a male and it is pre-breeding which makes it aggressive for a period of time?

4 pinkies probably means he should be on at least fuzzies by this point. Pinkies don't have a tons of nutrition,l something a little older will give more calcium.

A yearling is a bit young for a male to go off feed. They don't tend to be aggressive, just very active and not willing to eat.

For aggressiveness that's not typical or a corn. I would triple check temperatures, nothing makes a snake cranky like being too hot.

I also have a yearling corn snake. She is on wienling mice every 6 days, unless the mice are on the small side. The rule of thumb is 1 and 1/2 times the size of the largest part of the body. mine is a girl i got at 10 mos. old and as hard as we tried she has never calmed down to handle, But i love her , so i use a hook to pick her up. Once up shes fine. Try giving her a fuzzy mouse, if she takes it and there is no noticeable lump, then keep her there for a while , then go to hoppers, You can always feed on a 5 day schedule. I am very careful of size, because corns will regurge if the prey is too big. If you need to i learned a lot from the people at cornsnakes.net that is where i go when i have a question about my gracie.

I have a corn and he is almost 2 years old and he is now eating rat crawlers. He is very active and super friendly. Soon as I open the lid to either spot clean, change water, take him out, etc, he pops up tongue flicking to see what is going on.

When you are going to handle the snake, how do you approach him? I have found with my colubrids that just going in and scooping them up without any warning works best for me. I know that is pretty much the opposite approach from what I normally do, but they don't have time to get defensive or in feeding mode when I do that!

I think pinks are a bit small for a yearling corn. I'd try increasing the prey size.
