Escape prevention

Another question. I'm nearly clueless.
Okay, today my baby ball python escaped the tank and luckily I found him. However the clips that hold the top down obviously aren't enough to keep him enclosed.
Any ideas on how to keep him in the tank? Versa top, locks, anything?

Can you send a picture of your current tank? Is it a reptile tank or did you buy an aquarium?

A pictures would be helpful. In the meantime, put an encyclopedia or something on top of the tank. A baby won't be able to lift and move something that heavy.

Ditch tank, get proper reptile enclosure or a rack. Seriously, all but one of my escapees were from tanks, the one that wasn't was because some dummy (me) didn't slide a tub all the way back in the rack. Those little lid clips are worthless.

Cause it came with a lot of other stuff that said reptile. But rn I don't have much money to get a whole new enclosure and plus he's gonna need a larger enclosure when he grows bigger so, are there anyways more minimal ways to keep him inside(in the meantime I have a book on the screen) but if it comes down to it I'll find some money to provide a more reliable enclosure

I have a couple of huge textbooks being put to use to prevent escape at the moment, too. :rolleyes:

You could make a secure enclosure for pretty cheap if you use a tub. Some people don't like to use tubs because they are not the most attractive way to house BPs, though. I personally house mine in tubs in a snake rack and never had any issues with escaping BPs until I dismantled part of my snake rack and put the lids on 2 tubs instead of a shelf above them, hence the necessary textbooks these days.

Everything thing about that enclosure is wrong but it can be made to work.
Needs hides, a hot and cool side would be good (move the heat lap to one side), cover most of that screen top with foil to hold in humidity, the gauge it came with sucks (go to walmart and get a digital), and get a couple bricks from Lowes or Home Depot to put on that lid.
That looks to be a 10 gallon aquarium, your snake will outgrow that one in a couple months.
