Careful with ceramic water bowls ie: cracked
I use coconut husk fiber as substrate and ceramic water bowls are good but be watchful for a cracked bowl! I thought the water was just evaporating quickly due to our very dry climate here. After filling it twice in two days I took the bowl out and let the kids handle Monty for a bit (don't worry, the kids were 18 and 12 at the time). I inspected his tank and there was a 1/2" of water under the substrate of half his tank!! Thankfully, I caught it in time and the substrate on the surface was only damp and not soaking.

For the occasional times I clean his whole glass tank, I use regular white vinegar instead of a cleaning product. Scrub well, rinse lots, let it sit for 30 minutes then repeat. Let your nose tell you if it has to be rinsed again.
