Kingsnake feeders as a % of body weight.
For Ball Pythons, it's often recommended to feed them 10-15% of their body weight weekly.

Would the same rule apply to Kingsnakes? All I can find is "size of prey should be as wide as the snake at its widest point." But that's a little vague, considering the larger relative length of the snake.

My King's at a little over 50g right now, and this morning I fed her 3 mouse pinkies totalng about 7g, which she readily took. That would make for just under 15% of body weight. Is that OK ?

I think that once your BP is no longer a hatchling, that the body % rule goes out the window. And it is then comparable to girth. I don't know so much about kings, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help out :D

Found this chart for Corns. I'd suppose it could be used for Kings too... thoughts?

I'd move up to fuzzies if she's taking 3 pinks. Food item about the same as the snakes girth is always a good starting point. I feed adult kings weekly and little ones every 4-5 days.

I feed my kings 10-15% of their body weight every 5 days until they turn one then it's closer to 10% of their body weight every 7 days on average. They seem to grow pretty well on this schedule. I'd also agree with Dennis and move up to fuzzys.

She was supposedly born in June of 2014, so she'll be turning one in a few weeks. The Corn chart suggests Hoppers at her weight, but I'll take it on advisement. She's about 22 inches right now.

50g sounds a little small for a yearling. No need to power feed but I'd definitely increase it's food intake. My two kings were about 250g at 12 months. They're both a little over two now and they're 630g and 650g.

I have never fed a snake by weight. My balls get equal to girth and kings and corns can be fed up to 1 1/2 times their size in girth. When you feed them there should be a little lump in them.

Ron, I'm curious to see the differences between the 2 feeding regiments. Do you feed just one prey item per feeding? How often do you feed your colubrids? How old and how large are they?
