    Snake ID help
There is a story behind this snake and I could use all the help I can get in properly id'ing it. The snake was found in a carport 3 years ago. I have had it in my care for a year. I read somewhere ball pythons only grow to about 5 feet. This snake is a little over 6 feet. I have pics of it in my gallery. Going off the max length info it would put this snake around 20+ years old. I have not had it sexed. It is very active. Is fed every 7-10 days. Sheds about every 6-8 weeks. Its eyes are black. I heard that is peculiar for a BP. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

It is a Boa, not a Ball python.

Well I am glad I asked. A quick search showed the markings on the head as a give away. Any ideas on how to figure out its age?

Thank you for the help also.

    Welcome to the forum.

No way to really to pin down the age. Snakes grow at different rates depending upon how well and how often they were fed. Even snakes from the same clutches and litters can differ.

You can have an idea of at LEAST how old it is. Being a 6ft (?) I would guess 3-4 yrs. That is just an average.

Now, someone may come along and say, "it took 5 yrs for mine to hit 6 ft", and someone else will say," mine took 2 1/2 yrs". It just varies.

Also, if yours is a male, it MAY be slowing down on growing to maxed out. Maybe another foot to go? Who knows?

If it is a female, she may have another foot or two to go on average.

Boas are a lot of fun. Hey, any snake with a mustache has got to be cool!
