Another question about heat lamps

Which bulb is better for heat? Purple or red?

Dosent matter, but supposably they cant see red so it doesn't bother them, but i use blue personally with all our snakes and we notice no ill effects

My problem is my heat lamps aren't producing enough heat, my tank is 75f on the warm size and 72f on the cooler side. I'm trying to figure out what to do

What wattage bulb are you using? Also, do you have a UTH that you are using?

Right now I have two night bulbs running trying to get the heat up. They're 100 watt and 75 watt, we don't have a under tank heater because the pet store said we didn't need one �� but I'm starting to think I need one

If I remember from one of your previous posts, you said that this is a 10 gallon aquarium, correct? If it is a 10 gallon aquarium and you're using both bulbs then the temps should be sky high!

I have my baby in a 10 gallon and am using a UTH, as well as, a heat lamp to boost ambient temps since it is always cold in my home. I'm using a 100w bulb, but I only turn this on when I see that the ambient temps have dropped.

UTH is definitely the way to go. I'd also get a thermostat. You can get both at most petco stores or other animal supply stores. How are you measuring the temps?

Don't ever let someone, regardless of their job, tell you that you don't need something for your animal. What works for one person, or what they use, might not always work for you. The rules for setting up enclosures for animals are not always hard and fast.
I prefer UTHs as they're easier for me to regulate as opposed to lightbulbs. I'm not 100% familiar with ceramic heat emitters but I've heard this is another option other than lightbulbs. Perhaps someone could shed some light on those for you.

There no reason you should need both those bulbs... the 100w alone should be plenty enough, how are you measuring your temps?

I have temperature gauges 3 of them! One says 65f in supposedly the warm corner then one slightly in the middle that says a tiny less than 75f and the cooler corner is 72f its all so confusing! I turned off the 75 watt bulb because I'm worried to burn her! I recently moved my gauges because I was told in my last post that they're too high which probably explained why I was getting high readings as they were closer to the lights but now they're by the substrate all I'm getting is low readings!

What are you using to read the temps? Are they those little sticky ZooMed brand ones? If so they are horribly flawed for reading temps. They tend to only read whatever they're stuck onto and not the actual temperature in the cage itself. I like digital thermometers/hygrometers. I think someone in a another one of your threads suggested the Acurite brand and I can second this brand as I've been using them for years and have always gotten very accurate readings for my temps and humidity. Basically you want to position the thermometers where the snake will be: close to the ground.
