A question from a new ball python owner
Is it ok if one of my ball python stays on cool side mostly and comes out at night to bask. Is it alright? Also my albino stays in the hide under the lamp all day. It comes out at night and explores its tank but only hides on hot side. Is that ok? I'm a worry wort so it may be nothing but i want to be sure. I have a inferred thermometer on the way so i can check hot and cold spots. Thanks for any info.

As long as you have a colder side and a warmer side you're fine. The snakes explore so they are aware oft he temperature gradient - as long as it's a correct gradient.

Thats normal all my ball pythons are mostly active at night in fact if you ever have issues with them and feeding try it at night. Do you have just lamps or are you heating them with belly heat as well? Different snakes all have different personality just keep checking your temps if that's all good then i would not worry.

The problem with infrared thermometers is that they only measure surface temperature. I'd also suggest getting a digital thermometer/hygrometer to measure ambient temperature and humidity. That way you will know where your temps are.

I got this one at my local hardware store for $10bucks:
