moving with snakes?

I just recently got accepted into a Ph.D program which would require me to move to Detroit, MI from Tucson, AZ, which is around a 28hour drive. Is it feasible to move them out there with me? If so how or what options are available? Or should I be looking for a new home for them? :tears:

You can pack them up and drive them. I drove almost 100 ball pythons from NJ to AZ without any issues.

Ok but with any special accomodations? Did you do that in one sitting? I couldn't handle 28 hours straight so would probably stop at least 2 nights.

I think it took us four days. I bagged them up and packed them in styrofoam boxes. I also brought extra bags in case they went to the bathroom. It was August so I had a ton of cold packs just in case.

Well, I may not be of much use when it comes to the moving issue. But I wish you and your snakes the safest of move and congratulations on being accepted. :)

If you pack your snakes the way you would pack them to ship in the mail they should all be perfectly fine on a long drive. Maybe a little chilly, but fine. I would avoid feeding them the week before the trip and give them 1-2 weeks when you get to your new home to settle. So: snake bags or deli cups depending on size, styrofoam cooler(s), and crumpled paper to keep everyone cushioned.

By the way...congratulations on getting accepted into your PhD program! :D

First off congrats on the PhD acceptance. Im getting my PhD in Toxicology. Yes! You definitely can bring your reptiles. You can basically pack them up just as if they were being shipped. I recommend placing them in bags, and then in a box that has something soft to cushion them, like packing peanuts. You can add some of those 48 hr heat packs to up the temps. Just be cognizant of what the temps are in the car if you are using those.
