    Need positive thoughts and prayers
My boyfriend's father is in the hospital because he had a pretty massive heart attack. He is having a catheter put in today and a stent to help clear a blockage in his heart. He is 67 years old and stubborn as an old mule. I told him on Friday that he needed to go to the hospital and he didn't listen to me at all. He only went to the hospital very early on Saturday morning. He may be old and stubborn but I love him just the same. I just hope that he will change his diet and quit smoking cigarettes. This is not going to be an easy task.

I am just asking for some positive thoughts and prayers to kind of lift up my outlook right now because this is going to be a tough journey for this old man. Thank you.

It took my father two heart attacks to stop smoking and eating better. Have your boyfriend gather your siblings and have an intervention (or one on one) where they explain how it saddens them. Have whichever child is closest explain how he or she fears that he or she will end up in the same problem and feels that it is inevitable (even if it's not true). I'm not saying to overload the man with guilt, but make him see how his loved ones feel and care about him. DO NOT force him to do anything because it will not work, in my experience getting healthy is something that an individual has to decide they want. Does he enjoy any shows? Have him watch it on an iPad or phone while walking on a treadmill for 10 minutes at first. Go easy on the guy but mildly encourage him with things like "I wish all of us could go on a walk at this place" just don't flat out say "get up be healthy!" Because it will stress and deter an old man. Good luck

Sounds stubborn enough to not let a heart attack win. I hope he makes a recovery. Additionally, a one on one intervention with him and every relative (and you) would be a great idea, as previously mentioned.

Sending all positive thoughts across the pond. :)
