    What's happening to my BP?
    Hi guys,

My BP hasn't shed for 4 months now and It's been about 10 rats since his last shed.

I took him to the vet and they said he is healthy and is just growing before he sheds (His feeding has been really temperamental over the winter)

Now I look at him there are lots of individual scales flaking off. I've got a picture of them on my hand whilst handling him (He's actually slithering on my keyboard as I type this lol)

Is this because he is about to shed?

He is eating fine now and I've raised his humidity to about 60-70%

    Thanks,

    Dan

Here is a pitcure of his scales on him:

Have you been treating him with anything oil based?

Yes I put a layer of baby oil on him as I was told it is good for their "coat"

First of all, who told you that this is even good for the snake? Using oil based products on a snake is never a good idea because it sloughs off the scales. This is going to make the situation even worse. Just make sure your humidity is adequate and let the snake do it's thing.

A snake breeder I know, she uses it all the time. Maybe I should warn her!

So humidity will sort this problem out?

    Wow....baby oil treatments. That's a new one.

Proper humidity levels, along with regular meals and a clean environment will keep your snake healthy and happy. Nothing else is required.

Right this moment though....you may be in for one messy ride as each scale flakes off one by one. This isn't anything dangerous for the snake, just an unnecessary mess. It may trigger a full-on shed, or it may BE the shed, just in the tiniest pieces possible.

Either way...once it's over things will go back to normal and she'll be fine. And she'll shed whenever she's ready. They rarely live life by the timeline we think they should. :P

Thanks for your help once again! Haha.

It's a he by the way :) Well he hasn't shed in 4-5 months so hopefully he will soon. I've just fed him a rat last night and he ate that without problems. Hopefully he will shed now!
