    weird kink in BEL...HELP!!!!!
    Last year I produced two BEL's from a Mojave and spider x Lesser combo(double sired clutch). I gave one to my friend who owns a local pet shop here in North Florida. Just last Sunday while going in to get my feeders, he showed me the female BEL I gave him and she had a weird kink in her lower body next to her abdomen. We are stumped to what is causing this. He says she's eating fine and her stool looks normal. I kept two of her sibs (her twin brother/male BEL and a lesserbee) neither of which have any issues at all. I posted some picks of her kink and need the help of some of you to what it could be......thanks in advance for all of your help. Wow, that is so sad! I am no expert at all but I believe that may be a genetic malformation. I know the spider gene has the neurological "wobble". I believe the bel is also known to have some genetic issues as well. Their eyes and misshapen "duck billing are two issues. Good luck with her. Beautiful animal....:gj::gj:

    I know kinks are normally a genetic deformity and so long as it is eating and passing bowls as it should then the snake could potentially live a happy normal life. However from what I understand they have the kinks at birth and I have never heard of it happening after the fact. I am no expert on it though so hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

    It kind of looks like a crush injury. :confusd:

    I had a hatchling get hurt ( best guess he jammed himself between the hide and the roof of his tub );

    This happened in January 2009. Here is a picture from May 2009;

    I still have him and he looks fat and normal in every way - though I can still feel the injury if I probe gently.

    I agree with Dr. Del, it looks like an injury. Imo if it were a genetic deformity, I would think it would have been apparent from the onset.

    I'm also going with injury, a kink that bad should have been noticeable when it hatched.

    That has to be an injury. No way would you have missed that when it hatched.

    I have to concur with those that believe its an injury of some sort. It looks like her ribs have been crushed. I'd be at the vet in an instant if I saw something like that in one of my snakes. It looks really bad, like ribs are poking down through the ventral scales. :(

    Yeah, in the beginning I thought it was a genetic malformation. Now I can see the other explanation on the cause. Gee, that must have been painful when it happened. :(
