Should I get???

Ok guys just wanted other opinions! Should I get a pair of 100% Het pied?

Do you want two normal looking BP's that if you breed with each other will give you babies that are 25% pied, 50% normal looking carrying the pied gene, and 25% normals?

No one can really answer your question except for you depending on what your goals are.

I just wanna get some pied babies lol

We already have a normal bp but she's my husbands lol. The guy swore up an down I'd get pied babies but I'm just not sure about having that many normals lol I love the high white/albino/lesser/bumblebee type lol my husband is into the norms

Depends on your budget and patience.

Let's say you spend $150 on a pair of het pieds, you will have to include housing for 2 snakes + food + electricity + incubator + hatchling rack and wait anywhere between 2 to 3 years before your first pairings, if your odds are good you might produce a pied the first time around if not could be another year or two after that.

Or you can buy a pied which are anywhere between $350 to $500 and have the snake you want now not in several years.

The choice is yours, I have done it from scratch buying a pair of het pied and I can tell you there is nothing like making your own, the difference however when I het pieds back then were $1200 a pair and Pieds were $7500/ $10000 , hence why I bought hets at the time if I was to do it today I would obviously get visuals from the start.

Besides making a decision regarding buying hets, you also want to make sure you buy them from a trusted source/breeder. If a guy is trying to offload them and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You don't want to put in two or more years in raising them just to find out you have two Normals.

Ask for photos of parents and maybe check Fauna Classifieds' Board of Inquiry (BOI) to see if anyone else has dealt with the breeder.

Go for it! I think that producing your own recessive trait morphs in BPs is one of the most rewarding parts of the hobby. When I produced my first albinos I was thrilled. Pieds are even better as you never know the extent of patterning you will get. If you decide to purchase the hets make sure its from a reputable breeder. You can check for het pied markings, which usually manifest as a clean white underbelly with single black lines down the side by the tail region. Even then its not 100% accurate, but its something. Although getting a het that has "papers" is better, still doesn't guarantee genetics.

Make sure you have the ability to care for, sell, or rehome the rest of the babies. You are going to get a variable number of 66% het pieds along with (hopefully) a pied.

I actually know the breeder and have got most of my snakes from him so I do trust him :-)

Two hets are only going to make 25% pieds. You get 6 eggs, odds are you'll only get 1 or 2 pieds. You could get more, but you could also get 0.

Do you have some place you can give the normals and het pieds you make? If not, are you willing to keep the babies and take care of them?

If all you want is a pied snake, you might be better off just buying one.

I know it all depends what you produce BUT I've seen the parents in person an both ones I'm debating on getting I'm just ify if I'll get stuck with a bunch of hets an no pieds but that's just a chance you gotta take tho.
