does my snake have mites? i am finding small bugs on my hands after handling....never noticed before....what do i do???

Go to petsmart or a petstore and get Reptile Releif, spray this on a rag, and then wipe the snake down. While you are doing this to the snake, have someone take EVRYTHING out of the tank, and spray it with reptile releif, then rinse, and let air out for a min. THen put in newspaper, and make hides for tupperware, discinfect EVERYTHING that was in the cage. Repeat this proccess every 3 days.

the guy at the pet store sold me Provent A Mite....said it was the best thing...but u cannot apply directly to the reptile...how do i go about doing this
You can also use pro-zap pest strips as PREVENTATIVE maintence against mites. After you get rid of your current mites, hang a strip from the top of the tank and it will keep mites from infesting.
Except that use of the pet strips has been associated with long-term neurological damage. A link hasn't been proven, but is strongly suggested, so prudence says avoid using them.

Yeah I'd agree pest strips can be a REAL BAD IDEA. IF you for whatever reason feel absolutely compelled to use tham and cannot be talked out of playing that game od roulette at LEAST get some film cannisters, cut small holes in it and put in chunks fo the strip. Besides them being adhesive (bad idea to expose to) they are as Marla mentioned potentially quite hazardous.
There should be some instructions for the provent-a-mite on the can. Do nto spray on the snake - but the enclosure instead - use this in conjunction with soaking and keep away from all your other herps.
