Home Depot rack

So I'm building that plastic Home Depot rack but I don't under stand one thing. Why do I need to put screws in the tubes? What purpose does this serve or could I just skip it?

It is just to make it safer. I tried this type of rack myself and some of the connections are very loose. I would use the screws if I were you. Plus this type of rack can be flimsy.

Oh ok that makes sense. It is pretty flimsy compared to my melamine

Yea, I used the plastic shelf type rack first. A month later I switched to melamine.

After I made my first one, I dropped 1 inch wooden dowel rods into each of the four legs and then screwed them down.
