    Black eyed leucy question
    Hi guys! :-)

I have a question. I'm new to the forum--but not snakes. My very first snake was a ball when I was in high school. I've been doing burms and retics but due to some pretty bad back injuries, I can't do the big guys anymore, so I decided to come back to my first love, the balls. :-)

Anyway, my question is about the Black Eyed leucy's. In retics, the leucys are death traps. Genetics not strong and they all die after a couple years. Ball leucys are older and have been bred for a longer time. I'm curious if they are stronger, then? The black eyed leucy has been a dream snake since I first saw them and Bob has a couple for sale. I want to be sure I'm not going to get an animal that will die a couple years into it due to a weak strain.

    Any help is appreciated. :-)

    Thanks so much. :-)

As far as i know the black eyed lucy is the super form of the fire morph aka a super fire, i haven't read or heard of any cases like your describing, ive been looking into them alot, plan on hatching my own when my little guy gets to weight

I don't believe there are any issues around leucistic balls. Most genetic defects in ball pythons are pretty well documented and I've never heard of any of the leucistic snakes having problems.

Never heard of issues with black eye (super fire). Blue eyes are more likely to have bug eyes pop up now and then, but they still live long lives. There are some other lethal/weak combos that come out all white or nearly so (super champ and pearl for example) but those combos are avoided by the majority so you almost never see them.

Here is a list of the ones you need to worry about and some you just need to be aware of to not be surprised

Black eye lucy's have no issues. there are a few gene that make black eye lucy variants. Super fires are sometimes pure white, but most of the time have yellow splotches, super sulfers are more likely to have yellow splotches , and super lemonbacks I have never seen anything but pure white snakes.

Thank you so much, guys! You all are awesome. :) Not having been in the Ball world for so long, I had no idea about the strength of any of the morphs. I'm excited to get back into the ball world and get my first one in ages. :)

    Thank you, again. :)

I've never heard of any issues about any BEL or BlkEL coming out weak or having less than average lifespans. My BEL male is doing great as are are his offspring. No signs of being inferior in health compared to any other animal I own.

Thanks so much for the reply. I'm so happy the don't have any issues. The retic leucys are fatal. There are only like 2 that have survived past 2 years, I think--something like. None of them seem to last long, so I wanted to be sure it was not the case with balls. :)
