First Clutch of the Season - Out of the Eggs
My first clutch has finally hatched! These are from my big pied girl (weighed just over 4200 grams) who I was hoping that my enchi pin het pied male got too, but the clutch ended up being sired by my pastel lesser het pied male instead.
I ended up with:
1.2 Lesser Pieds (these are also possible pastels)
2.0 Pastel Pieds
0.1 Pied
0.1 Pastel Lesser het Pied
1.0 Pastel het Pied
0.2 Normal het Pieds
Anyways, on to the pics...

It does have small eyes. This is pretty typical of lesser pieds, as well as super lessers. I have been told that introducing extra genes into the lesser pied combo helps to reduce the frequency of the small eye issue, but I can't say that I have produced enough of them to know that for myself. The same breeder told me that he believes that both of the female lesser pieds are actually pastel lesser pieds, due to the normal sized eyes of #1 & #2 and also the color spot on the tail of #1.

I don't have a pic of it with me, but I will post one when I get home from work. Exactly, I don't know why it happens, other than it is a trait that is prevalent when the pied and lesser genes are present together in the snake. It does not affect their ability to thrive, just a negative trait that pops up, like most wobbles that occur with the spider gene.

Wow, good pick up Running Elk! I'm sure a lot of threaders missed that eye issue. They are all beautiful animals! Thanks John for sharing and expounding on the genetics! :gj:
