feeding Questions

should i worry about where my mice have been? i get them from the Petco i got Monty from and the sales dudes there said that they feed the other BPs (same Litter) those mice

I don't understand what your saying. Could you reword it or something? It doesn't make sense.

Well I don't know about you but my petco lets me take my feeder mice out of a huge 50 gallon aqaurium in the small animals department. :twisted:
I don't think you have to much to worry about unless you think petco poisens the mice or something.

Pet store mice usually have parasites and may or may not be fed a balanced diet. The safest way to use pet store mice for feeders is to keep them for a week or so, feeding them yourself, then kill them and freeze them for a month before using as food.

Are you talking about the F/T mice? Cause the live ones I get are meant to be pets.

At the petsmarts around me they don't sell feeder mice. Just the fancy ones and I can't bear to feed something that pretty. So I get them from another pet shop. Sorry, I was confused, but now I understand what you are saying. But I would definately get some f/t because at those petcos and smarts they have parasites. I would only get live ones from a reliable small family owned pet shop, then I would give 'em a good whack. lol

So long as it hasn't been hanging with the wrong crowd it should be fine.

Actually, it really doesn't matter where you get them, if mice or any rodent is living together with other rodents of the same species, they will get parasites. With all of the poop and sharing of food and all of that, it's inevitable. I talked to my teacher, the vet, and he said that the parasites the mice have won't transmit to the snakes. It's not really possibly since the parasites in the mice are usually host-specific, meaning they can only live in mice, and they aren't in the right stage of development to infect anything, since the parasites are still in the mouse.

as long as the living conditions were ok i wouldn't worry about the mice. i have talked to several breeders that feed live and some raise their own rats and some buy, no problems. these breeders have anywhere from 100-500 animals in their collections, ranging from 100.00 animals to 20,000 thousand dollar animals. i feed frozen by the way, it is just easier for me.
