Hybrids?!

Is a Burmese X Ball Python Hybrid possible?!

Burmese and bp? That would be very stange.
But this exact hybrid has been spotted before.

I would have to say yes anything is possible but No you would not likely see it nor should it be done. its sorta like blood/balls yes it can be done but should it........

I think a burm x bp cross would be much worse and more likely to have odd problems than a blood x ball cross. I mean the size difference is quite staggering...

I woudl guess that the ball python and the burm would be too different genetically to cross them successfully. This being evidenced by their very differing sizes. Maybe someone else is a little bit more knowledgible on genetics?...

yea that would be weird! a giant bp....... whoa!

Just the thought of a bp locking up with a burm gives me the creeps.

Actually, they're both within the same genus, which would possibly make it easier to breed them together than with other genera - i.e. Morelia or Liasis. We've bred Angolans to balls, burms to retics, carpets to macklots to diamonds, all with varying & surprising results.

A debate over whether or not hybrid "should" be created is another matter entirely. Personally I'm not a huge fan, but it is fascinating to see the outcome of some of the various crosses, as well as finding out when Mother Nature puts her foot down - which she has done more than once on various combos.

Hybrids are fine with me as long as you are sure that there won't be overdo genetic defects that you overlook simply because the snake looks cool.
