Actually, they're both within the same genus, which would possibly make it easier to breed them together than with other genera - i.e. Morelia or Liasis. We've bred Angolans to balls, burms to retics, carpets to macklots to diamonds, all with varying & surprising results.
A debate over whether or not hybrid "should" be created is another matter entirely. Personally I'm not a huge fan, but it is fascinating to see the outcome of some of the various crosses, as well as finding out when Mother Nature puts her foot down - which she has done more than once on various combos.
