    Need some boa help
So picked up my first boa yesterday. Not really sure what kind it is, so I figured I'd ask the experts. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...ec32e894d5.jpg

    Welcome to the forum.

Since I am not 100% sure, I'll keep my mouth shut as far as what I think s/he may be.

However, I do know that it sure is a Pretty little thing.

    Congrats!

Looks like a hypo Colombian bci (common boa). Did they sex it for you? Females will get a lot larger than males. Boas are great snakes, and a lot more fun IMO than balls, etc. Just be prepared to get a nice PVC cage for it in 2-3 years.. I will be buying my first PVC cage for my boa in a few months... Males require a 4x2, and females can need a larger 6x2 as adults. Also, there's a great book on amazon called the complete boa constrictor with great info and pics. I highly recommend it.

The head looks hypo but the body looks like a sunglow with bad camera lighting. What was he sold to you as? Just saw the little bit of tail and I agree, probably a hypo. Pretty clean though and the top and sides of the body still look like a sunglow in bad camera lighting to me :P

So he just had his first shed with me. He's doing great, I love how easy feeding is compared with BPs. He's still a bit shy, but getting better. I definitely see more boas in my future.

Lol yeah they are a lot easier to feed than beepers for most part. Vicky is picky though. She grabs her mouse and then holds it for about 5 mins inspecting it, then eats it. Rosey just slams it and swallows and Dottie my bp actually has a stronger feeding response that either of my 2 BCIs which amazes me. :O But to quote someone else who talked about boas feeding, "You could take your boa to a rock concert on your shoulders and it would snatch a parachuting rat out of the air and eat it" which I found hilarious as a mental image. :D

I'm glad it is doing well for you. Yeah... you can't just have one boa. I started with my first a year ago and just got my third about a week ago. :D I do love their feeding response.. Mine will eat even in deep shed, etc. No issues whatsoever.

Definitely looks like a hypo boa constrictor, either a really clean hypo or it could have another morph in it (I'm not too good with morphs). Enclosure should be Length+Width, so if your male gets over 6' you may want to consider stepping up from a 4'x2', and of course that's just the minimum! You can go as big as you want, just make sure to provide cover.

I too love the boa constrictor's feeding response. Mine has never missed a meal except for a period in which I was accidentally feeding much too large of prey, but he went back to his ravenous self once I started offering smaller prey again.
