Need some opinions

So I'm setting up a tank for my kingsnake and I've got all the Temps down and humidity even tho that's a big issue for kings. But I want some opinions about Wether or not I NEED a UTH for a king. I have no money for one atm and it's gonna be summer down here in Texas so the Temps will be fine what does everyone thing about it being ok to move him into his new enclosure

Yes you need a uth and a thermostat for the kinsnake . Simply because he needs to have a thermal gradient for proper thermoregulation and digestion. Ambient temperature is really not adequate. You can always dial down the settings on the thermostat. I think the mid to high 70's is good for a kingsnake. Good luck.:gj:

IMO it depends on the ambient. My kings all have UTH's but in the summertime my thermostat for the AC is set at 78*F and I never see the kings on the heat. In the winter the house heat is set at 70*F and they use the UTH (set in the mid 80's) for a day or so after a meal. None of them have heat lamps.

My kings are in the snake room with ambients in the 80's. No light or heat tape etc and they do wonderfully.

They have been outside of the snake room where the temps are a bit more unstable. I usually use a heat lamp then to bring up temps to a good level.

It really depends on what method you want to use. Just make sure you do your research.

I've done my research I've had my king for about 3 months now and he is doing great had a great shed this week eating like a champ. I just a larger enclosure for him recently and he has a great gradient in both tanks. I can't keep my "snake" room that high as my mom would kill me so heat lamps are the way I'm going. Do you think it would be safe to move him into the larger tank? I have everything expect the UTH

No need to add to the string as it seems like it is pretty much covered, but your statement about not having money for a heat mat at the moment confuses me. Heat mats are incredibly cheap if you don't have the money for a mat how are you planning on providing other essentials for your animals?

I lost my job a while back after buy about 3 month supply of food for both snakes. Currently applying to jobs so I can finish up some of ideas for tanks

So no one will lend you the $20 for a UTH? Belly heat is perfect for snakes, and it doesn't cost a lot to provide it.

He'll also need a thermostat for it, unless he has a spare.

It is of my understanding that you don't need belly heat for any snake. If he is being kept at the proper temperatures like you say, then you wouldn't need to do anything more.
