Yay! First shed and beyond ecstatic.

Last week I posted because Fuzzy was acting "weird". Today I know why; s/he IS in shed. Today I went to change the water bowls and decided to check on Fuzzy since I haven't seen him/her for a while. I lifted the hide and what i saw was a very dull, hazey/blue eyed Fuzzy, curled and aggressive looking. I sat the hide back down and got all giddy. This is the first time Fuzzy has shed since we've had him/her.

That all being said, feeding day is usually Sunday. Should I attempt to feed Fuzzy, or wait? Fuzzy didn't eat this past Sunday due to being in shed (I'm assuming anyway, since s/he's never missed a meal before)

Some of mine don't like to eat when in shed and the earliest sign is usually inactivity/hiding followed by in blue, then this clears up in 24 to 48 hours and they typically shed a few days later. If they shed on a feeding day I'll feed them that night and I've never had issues, if they haven't shed by their next scheduled feed day I'll wait till the next time they are due to eat. Two of mine I noticed in early stages of blue last night but they both ate anyway.

I am glad to hear that you became giddy after seeing fuzzy in the hide. Try to refrain from picking up the hide off fuzzy in the future. Only because he has shown some aggressive hatchling behavior recently. When in the hide he is asking for privacy and I would grant him that for now. IMO, I would wait until he sheds before I try to feed him. Just pick up at the next scheduled feeding. Peace.:gj:

I definitely tried to wait feeding my 1300g adult male BP when he was in shed-mode. But I noticed that every time I changed his water, he would pop his cute head out of his hide, just as he usually does when he was hungry. Mind you, he was supposed to be fed 5 days prior and I felt like I needed to feed him. While some BPs don't feed during their shed cycle and some do, I wanted to know if he fed, so I took a leap-of-faith and decided to "test him out", just to see if he would eat during the shedding process.

I scented his cage with a paper towel slightly damp with the F/T rat juices (kinda gross, come to think of it lol) and lo and behold he popped his head out, ready to strike even though he couldn't see anything with his opaque, blue eyes. I plopped the rat next to him, left him to figure it out what was there, and he struck it. Definitely wasn't the best strike he's ever done lol. Needless to stay, after the feeding ordeal he went straight back into his hide and was one "happy" shedding BP. However, by feeding him, it definitely affected the results of his shed. While I can almost 100% guarantee he would have shed in one piece if I didn't feed him the large rat, he ended up shedding in two pieces, just because the rat stretched out his skin :colbert:.

So moral of the story, yes, I believe you can feed him/her IF you think he/she will feed. However, just know that by doing so, it may affect the way he/she sheds. And also, make sure you leave them alone while they're shedding! I know when I bothered my BP during his shed-cycle he hissed at me for the first time :P.

I wasn't really sure until today if fuzzy was shedding or not. I knew it was about time but wasn't positive.

I wouldn't bother feeding, there is no real need. It could just stress him out, they like to be alone when they are shedding, the thought that a prey item is running about when they are at their most vulnerable is not something they really want.

Also, SnakeCharm, blind snakes can strike with pinpoint accuracy, using their heat pits and sense of smell to locate the exact location of the prey item, it is pretty cool.

I guess we can all agree, my BP just really likes to eat! :P

It is in their nature, they don't know when the next meal will come along. They would probably eat every day of the week if you let them.

UPDATE
Fuzzy shed last night. :) In his/her hide even. This Is the first time Fuzzy has shed since we brought him/her home. It all came off in one piece. S/he seems way happier now. I'm guessing after missing two feedings s/he's probably hungry. Come on Sunday!

Congrats, a good shed is always nice. I had 1 shed out yesterday and 2 today, I didn't even know one of them was in shed. Thankfully most of my tubs are pretty humid these days.
