    My snake ATE my snake
I have....correction had 2 juveniles in QT for possible mites. I saw a dot on one and when I got it off and squeezed it it popped! Gross.
When they arrived to me I placed them in separate tanks with aspen, Ive never used this because I think it's hard to keep sanitary. So I saw a mite and that substrate had to go. I put them together to clean out the 20long he was in and it took a little while because I was being alittle anal about the mite eggs or hoppers or any of the stuff I've read. I came back in and my heart stopped! The little girl got out!!! Or so I thought. I tossed all the bedding around looked under the water in the hides but she was nowhere! Got the flashlight looked under and over for her and then I looked closer at my boy RAVI. He doesn't have a rat bump in his belly his whole body is a bump almost head to tail. So I look at the charts for last time I took weights she's 195 he's 360 then I get the scale..... Just over 500 so.........I've heard of this and considered it almost a"myth" and never gave it another thought.
    I really liked that snake
on a lighter note when should I feed him again I'm thinking 10 days, this was a expencive week for snake food

    Whoa!! That's crazy!:O

Sorry for your loss man. :(

As as far as his next meal:

If he survives from not busting a gut, or if he doesn't regurge, you may want to skip a meal.(I just re read your post about 10 days, yeah, see if he will respond)
Think about it; if you were feeding a rat pup 20% of his weight, he just ate a snake a bit over 50% of his weight!

Absolutely DO NOT do anything on my recommendation without hearing advice from anyone else, but in the few instances that I've seen of cannibalism in garter snakes the only hope for the snake that ate the other one was if the owner could somehow force a regurge.
Like I said, I don't know if the same holds true with balls and you could easily do more harm than good if it doesn't, so don't try anything without hearing from someone who knows more about this.

The good news so to speak is that Hannibal was considerably larger than his meal, which will increase his chance of survival.
Not taking away any of the seriousness or danger of the situation.

Crap, worried now. Thanks guys! J/k
I'll keep a close eye but Ravi is a champ eater and sometimes gets seconds on a meal if someone else refuses to eat an already thawed rat. He was a underfed runt and now he never misses a meal.
Weird thing is I thought he was starting on a break or hunger strike cuz he skipped a week a few weeks back but he's back on for sure.

hes full but not stretched out in girth. I am realy thinking he might regurgitate now that you mentioned it. but he's acting completly normal. he my be playing off his belly ache so he doesn't get in trouble for eating his future mate.

That really sucks. I would be very worried as a lot of stories I heard about one snake eating another ended with the one who did the eating either regurgitated the other one and had issues or he just flat out died. Definitely keep a close eye on the living one and unfortunately you learned a lesson the hard way, never put 2 snakes to together unless under your supervision 100% of the time and even then it is still a very bad idea. You're taking it rather calm too. If it was me I would be one pissed off sob as my pied ball python and my Redgroup/Burke Lipstick sunglow both cost me a nice chunk of pocket change each not to mention I'm rather attached to all my pets :(

Hannibal the Cannibal. Atleast his name makes sense. I also have a ball python named Hannibal. Sorry for the loss op
