Switching to rats

I'm feeding my snake every 5-6 days on adult mice. He is ~150-175 grams as of now and 4 months old. He is getting fat but not growing fast since I know people whose balls are younger than mine and 300-400 grams. I want to switch him to rat pups but my question is if I do switch would I have to feed less considering the rats are more nutritious? I have never fed rats before to any snakes I have kept. I bought a rat pup/weanling tonight that I thought was "ok" but ended up being 35 grams which I thought was too big and that is the smallest rats they carry. Is it worth to switch? :confusd: I should mention he is a garbage disposal so I doubt he will refuse rats.

Rats are not more nutritious than mice.

It's not a race. As long as your snake is healthy and growing, you're doing fine.

35 grams will fit in your snake without a problem. When they're young they grow fast and process food faster. If you're worried about it, let him sit 7 days before his next feed.

Really? I always thought they had more calcium and are just more nutrient dense then mice :confusd: maybe I should stick to mice right now since their cheaper if there is no significant difference.

There's no significant difference.

Rats are usually preferred since it's easier to feed them to your snake once your snake gets bigger. You can feed an adult BP one rat instead of multiple mice. If you think you want to switch to rats at some point, it's probably best to try the switch young.
