Daylight Spectrum Bulbs

What's up retophiles.

I'm doing my best to replace all my zoomed crap. Not that anything has failed, but I'm determined to not ever let it get to that point.

The day bulbs in particular do not last. On the other hand, I have about 15 perfectly functioning night bulbs!

What, if any, day colored bulbs are fellow python keepers using?

None. They are usually considered not nessecary for the wellbeing of the snake.

I'm not sure the UTH is up to the job of ambient temp. Plus my cold side dives when a bulb goes while I'm at work.

Using bulbs to provide a daylight spectrum and using bulbs to provide heat are two entirely different concepts. Yes, ball pythons require a heat source for proper thermoregulation. No, they do not require a specific spectrum of light (UVA/UVB) for calcium metabolism like some other reptiles do.

I use a T-8 4500k daylight fluorescent tube in my big BCI cage but in both my pied and sunglow cages, I only use the light from my beardies cage. They are both in tanks, once I get them into Ap cages, ill just use the same T-8 4500k Daylight tubes you get from Home Depot.

I prefer running regulated UTH, CHEs and black bulbs all the time to keep the right temps in the right places, then simple fluorescent or LED daylights on a timer to remind the snake it's daytime, and show off all the decorations while the snake hides. Saves a ton on bulbs, and the temps are consistently ideal without unnecessary night drops. The CHE's are plenty to keep temp without the black lights, but a little light helps me watch and feed her when she's active at night.

I understand the spectrum is not needed for health, I prefer the blue vs red... so I can see in his tank better :P

I had considered a flourescent or an LED. I have a pretty sweet blue LED lamp for my betta tanks.

I brought the rack idea up to my wife. She's miss snake activist all of a sudden and doesn't think a rack setup is 'humane' for the snake. So cute ;)
