Scale rot looks like burn?? Same heat.. tip of tail brownish red all the way around?
I was away for a week and when i came back i found my snake in what at first looks like she has a burnt belly from the under heat. But the last 2 mm of her tail is reddish brown all the way around too. I soaked her in a betadine solution. What else can I be doing? What would a vet do for her other than the soaks?
Advice? Vet is closed tomorrow and I work Monday tuesday 12 hr shifts...
Dont know how to post pics!!!

It's difficult to make recommendations in this sort of situation without pictures...

My advice is to get to a vet as soon as you can. They can provide antibiotics to prevent infections from the burns.

Also, how are you regulating your UTH? Do you have a thermostat on it? If no, you need to quit using it until you can get a thermostat to go with it.

That's the best I can do from my phone. I can't use the picture link for some reason. Yes I don't have a thermostat but I haven't had one for 6 months and she's never had this. I've disconnected the heat as you say until I get one.
The things that gets me is the entire tip of the tail is brownish where the rest of that area is fine. Too small to get a pic.... I wouldnt be able to get her to a vet before wednesday. I guess I'll see if it progresses without heat and keep giving her betadine baths?

Unfortunately that does look like a burn from the photos. If you haven't had a thermostat on that uth for 6 mos then this is the end result . We are all glad you caught it before it got any worse! Alternate the betadine soaks with chlorhexidine gluconate for the antiseptic properties but the main medication if this truly is a thermal burn is silver sulfadiazine and that is only by prescription. Another medication would be the antibiotics the vet would prescribe as well. You should really try and get it evaluated by a vet asap. Remember to consider a alternate way to keep your bp within the required temp and humidity zones. Good luck and stay in peace and not pieces.:gj:

http://www.mountainside-medical.com/ will sell it without a prescription. Search on their site for silvadene or silver sulfadiazine.

As a former vet tech who has seen burns on snakes I would say that is for sure a burn. Betadine baths(tea colored) and triple antibitic will go a long way. We always recommended doing that twice a day and applying triple antibiotic at least twice a day but 3 times is better. Give it a week if it appears to be getting much worse before then take to a vet. Also keep it on Newspaper or paper towels until it has healed and change its cage and water daily. That will help cut down on chances of infection as well as further irritation to the burns.

Always breaks my heart when I see these types of injuries that could easily be prevented. Hopefully this little scaled baby recovers nice and quick.:snake:
