    Water intake?!
My snake just drank water for 3-4 minutes! Is this normal? He usually only drinks for about a minute long. Could it have to do with him being in shed?

Another question on water- do you have to dechlorinate water for bps? Or is tap water fine?

I use plain tap water, haven't had any problems.

Does he have access to water all the time, or was this after he went from no water to a full water dish? If he's been dry, you should make sure to get him a full and fresh bowl of water every day to avoid him gorging himself on water (I don't know if it's that bad a thing for BPs, but I have had a juvenile beardie guzzle water until he started spitting it back up).

Is your tap water especially chlorinated, or high in other chemicals? All tap water is different, but if it's safe for you to drink it should be safe for your snake as well. I don't dechlorinate or treat my tap water in any way and I haven't had issues with any of my animals (10 snakes, a bearded dragon, a dog, and several rats).

My adult varies her intake all of the time. There is nothing to worry about.
However, I wonder if you may be on to something about the correlation with the shed.

Tap water is normally fine, but if you are worried about it you can easily dechlorinate your water just by letting it sit out over night.

Thanks for the replies. He always has access to a full water dish. Good to know that tap water is okay.

I use SeaChem Prime to dechlorinate/deaminate a couple gallons of water at a time. That may not be necessary for BPs, but I have frogs that need it so I figured it wouldn't be too much trouble to just treat everyone's water. SeaChem Prime is a good water conditioner if you feel like treating your water.

I don't know for sure scientifically on the disadvantages of using tap water. I do mainly use spring water although I intersperse that with tap water. Whatever spring water that is on sale that's what I try to get. Wal-mart has cases for 3.99.
