    RI back again?
So today i went to check on my bp and i noticed he still has an ri. I went through the vet stuff and they gave me shots which he finished. And was actually all better from what i thought. He has had 2 meals since he kicked the infection. But yesterday i offered him another small rat and he struck and killed it, but then put it in his water bowl which i thought was odd. And today i checksd him out because i was going to change his bedding and then i hear mucus! Im kind of freaking out because i thought this was all over but it seems its not. What would you guys recommend i do?http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...514023b945.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...1710272eae.jpg

Has he shed since he was sick? Did your vet do a culture? What was the antibiotic that he was prescribed? As far as the rat in the water dish. Sometimes my snakes get their prey in the water dish and still eat it. However, more often than not, if the prey gets killed or drug into the water, they do not eat it.

Some vets have been known to treat reptiles as they were mammals. They adjust amounts and follow the same methods, the issue is reptiles have slower metabolism. Reptile vets often proscribe antibiotics for 3-6 weeks every 3 days.

How long was the antibiotic cycle? What was the antibiotic and was there a culture?

In my area there is a growing resistance to common reptile antibiotics. This has been made worse by incorrect antibiotic usage and mis use of disinfectants is also demonstrated to be a possibility.

Cultures are needed to target the correct most effective antibiotics, sadly if there was no culture done previously it takes many months for the antibiotics in the system to clear, cultures done with antibiotics in the system often are not very accurate. I would 100% suggest a culture be done if there was no attempt at a guess. After a incorrect guess a culture is not effective and a second guess might work.

If your vet guessed and or offered a short (week or two) antibiotic cycle I would look for a new vet.

If the vet gave the correct meds and the RI was fully cleared your husbandry needs tweaking.

that too... I am sorry I jumped to conclusions that it was a short time ago. A culture also will confirm RI not something else.
