Any fridge- freezer experts out there ?

Looks like our Indesit fridge-freezer is beggared :(

It started making weird noises a few weeks ago then the fridge stopped working ....I did a google search .... ended up taking the internal back panel off ( situated in the freezer section ) and it was basically a block of ice .... using a hairdryer / hot water bottle and an ice pick I cleared all the ice , dried the area up and plugged it in again .... all fixed or so I thought ..... a week later it happened again so I followed the same procedure .... not as much ice this time ...... fixed again EXEPT this time the fix only lasted a day or so and the fridge is nearly room temp again :(

Don't know if it's best to pay someone to try and fix it including a call out fee .....or get a new one ...The fridge is 4 years old .

Sorry to hear about your freezer Zinc. And only 4 yrs old, what a disappointment. :(

Hopefully someone one in the business will chime in.

Just hope the freezer doesn't stop working as well in the meantime !

hi, i am new to the forum but this thread caught my eye immediately. i am an hvac-r technician. i am a certified refrigeration technician. the problem with your freezer is most likely a evaperator fan issue. the evaperator fan takes the cold and circulayes the air off of the coil, your coil if freezing up due to fan not moving the cold air off of the coil. the noises you heard were most likely the fan bearings making noise as they are most likely worn out. you can have a technician verify by taking a look at it face to face and most likely have to replace the fan for you, relatively inexpensive repair. hpe this helps you and good luck.

Blow out the drain hole at the bottom of the coil(evaporator) in the freezer next time. Also. Remove the plastic grille from under the door,and back cardboard(at bottom as well) panel. Blow all the dust out you possibly can from the condensor. Most likely the problem is a spider/dust bunny in the drain line though. It may take a good while with warm water and a hair dryer to thaw the drain tube as it runs to the bottom of the unit. Then shove compressed air up its.... drain hole... lol. Should fix you right up.

Sorry , I have no access to compressed air .... The other things you mentioned .... Hopefully they can be accessed from the front ....it would be a devils own job to get the thing out of it's slot as the kitchen part was built around it !!

Freezing up, as already mentioned, check the fan.
That is only one of two things that can really "make noise" on a fridge.
See if it will spin by hand and feel smooth, as well watch it and see if it comes on when the compressor kicks in.

FYI..... unplug the fridge before you spin it by hand just in case.

Sorted ... Paid a £20 fee for call out engineer who advised us to leave it unplugged for 3 days plus . We left it 5 days and plugged it in and it's been overreact ever since :)
