worried about humidity

My little guy has his two lights on either side of the tank but I got a humidity monitor today and it was saying like 30. I've been spraying water and put a towel in the middle between the lights and now it's about 40. He's trying to shed right now, too. Is there anything else I can do to increase the humidity????

What substrate are you using?

It's fir bark....my boyfriend got it so I didn't really know until I looked at the bag tonight.

Placing a damp towel on the metal screen can cause the screen to rust.

You should cover the most of the open portion of the screen lid with foil tape, foil wrapped cardboard, etc. This will keep in both heat and humidity.

My tank humidity stays in the 30s. I get around this by placing moss in the hides. During a shed I keep it moist and it creates I nice humid hide for the snake to soak up. During non shed times I allow the moss to dry out before making it damp again. This has given me great sheds.

What I have in my enclosure is a mix of eco earth which is coconut husk in a brick form then you soak it in water and spread it in your cage. Then reptibark for a little texture. Gets the humidity nice and high with tin foil cover part of the cage. I had your problem as well but mine wasn't shedding

Okay, I'll try that. I'm going to have a busy day tomorrow! Today when I went to the pet and grocery store, Malakai slept in my pocket the whole time. Maybe he'll want to come with tomorrow :oops:

I just got him out to cuddle and it seems most of his skin has shed so does that mean everything is okay??

Define most..?

An ideal shed comes off in one long nice piece. It is still considered a good shed if you get two or three large pieces with non stuck on the snake. After that you enter the bad shed area with flaky sheds that come off in a ton of pieces with it being a terrible shed if a lot is stuck on the snake.

What do you have going on?

haha. i just posted a thread about using Fir bark. I was worried that it could be dangerous to the snake but seeing as no one has called you out on it I guess Im fine :P

I would recommend Moss inside the warm side hide. it had helped me TREMENDOUSLY!!! My snake had two horrible sheds when I first got it, but after the moss, her sheds were near darn perfect. I just put fresh moss in every time I clean the cage and when I notices she is about to shed, I either replace old moss with fresh moss or just re-soak the old moss.
