I keep shipping heat warmers as an emergency back up.

Such a scary feeling. I lost heat in my apartment for a week and had to use a space heater near my snakes enclosure and up the wattage bulb to keep temps above 82/93 cool/warm side when my apartment was 50 degrees. I live in a Northern state and I have heard of using a cooler with hand warmers and placing your snake in a snake bag in the cooler and cracking it open for air. Not sure how it works never tried it. Good luck

Well I'm not exactly "north" but between our crappy infrastructure and regular winter ice storms - we're getting 1/2 inch of ice overnight tonight in fact - I purchased a generator years ago.

When I lost power back in November for about 10 hours, after 5 hours, all my guys dropped down to 70F and my poor BCI girl was wrapped up under her RHP like "OMG WHERES THE WARMTH!!??". So I had to put everyone in their totes and drag everyone out to the car and ran that for about 5 hours to keep everyone warm. Funny part is my bearded dragon didn't even wake up during the whole ordeal. Me though, half sleeping in a car from about 3am to 7ish am really sucks. A few people told me to check out Mr Heater which is an indoor heater that attaches to propane tanks. Looked really good and would keep a reptile room warm and a lot cheaper than a generator.

Propane space heaters are a basic must if you live in an area with possible dangerous power outages. I bought a 5kw generator instead. Specifically for my snakes. A month later I lost power for 18 hrs. Dropped to single digits. They'd have been ice cubes if not for some foresight. Beauty about the 5kw is that I can run EVERYTHING in my place on that honda. Although when I get serious and build my dedicated facility I'll be going solar with a generator to boot.
