    I think I got a good deal
I'll start out by saying I love BPs. I had one years ago but gave it to my sister (now he's huge). recently I decided to get another. I wanted a super cinnamon but didn't want to pay for it so I decided I would buy babies and raise them since I know someone that used to breed for a long time but had to get out of it a few years ago. I found a female cinnamon online for $50 and agreed to buy her. The guy also wanted to sell a 800g male lesser for $100 and as soon as I saw the picture I had to have him.

Then the same guy offered me a pastel and black pastel, both females for $25 each. Seemed like a good deal so I agreed ( after begging my wife)

So now I'm going to get 4 snakes for $200. I needed something to put them in so I bought a very well made rack from my ex-breeder friend for $100 ( helix thermostat and flexwat, 10 tub). I get everything set up and the snakes and I'm excited.

Well I must have a problem because I found another good deal on 2 normal females for $30 each (1200g and 1400g) and a 300g male spider for $65. I bought them.

Within 2 weeks I go from 0 BPs to 7 with a rack system.

I want to breed later on to offset costs and be able to afford more expensive morphs but for now they are all pets ( my wife even baby talks to the little pastel, she claimed it)

How did I do? Did I over do it?

Sorry for the long post I love all the info and have learned lots

The only person that can comment on whether or not you over did it is yourself. To me, you got good deals price wise so if you are happy with it and can afford the money and time to care for them then good for you! Who knows how many you'll have this time next year lol its a serious addiction for some people 🐍

    Welcome to the forum.

I think you got a deal as long as they are healthy with no issues.

Did you over do it? I don't know, but let's just say you now have a new hobby. :)

In my opinion it's less expensive to save up and buy those "more expensive" morphs than try to breed especially since you bought all single gene animals.

The double or even tripple genes BPs aren't even that expensive anymore so if you planned things out, you could've had a much better group for breeding.

Anyways, that's just my opinion. If you're happy with your purchase then that's great! However, patience and planning goes a long way in this hobby. There's so many cheap snakes out there it's unbelievable. You can't buy them all.

I really just want a super cinnamon or super black pastel nothing too confusing. I check temperatures constantly and as my wife to check for me when I'm working night. I love them all and finally decided on names for all

And remember, while you might have gotten a good deal or not(you are the only one to really judge that), the biggest expense comes in feeding and caring for them. Most people just look at the initial cost of the animal and don't really factor in the price of 25 years worth of substrate changes, food and vet bills. But like Mr Misha said, if your goal was to produce something that wasn't crazy expensive, it probably would have been better to just save the cash and buy one or slowly add multi gene animals. I'm still on the fence about breeding myself but if I do do it, it will to produce my own morphs I want for fun and not to make money. That's why I would probably limit myself to probably 7 or so animals max as for me, they would be pets first and foremost and breeding them would be more of an afterthought than a goal.
