Alright guys quick little update on my new tank WIP i just laid down the bedding for the tank roughly 75% damp coconut husk and 25% reptibark and it has humidity at around 50ish% with my heat lamp on which i believe is a 75W bulb. i dont know whether or not to switch to CHE for both and night use or use a clear bulb and a infrared one. i want to be able to see her but have her not be stressed out... i got her smaller tank down to a fine art but she hasnt come out of her hide in a few days so i went into and invetigate and she seemed fine. im slightly worried but she seems alright. is that normal for BP's?i got her last Saturday at NRABC convention. Also if you guys have any ideas for the tank feel free to share, im kind of beating my head against the wall trying to firegure what i want to do.

BPs tend to spend most of their time in their hide. Some are more exploratory than others, but curled up in a hide is a BP's general state of being. Also when you say last Saturday do you mean 3-4 days ago, or 10-11 days ago?

I hiding snake is a happy snake. Nothing strange there. There are two things that move less than a Ball Python and those are a Blood Python and a pet rock.

As for the cage light and heat source that it much up to you and your preference.

You could very easily use a CHE and have a double dome fixture with a day bulb and a night bulb that was just for presentation. I use fluorescent bulbs for day because they put out little heat and are more efficient. Then for night I would use a low wattage red or blue bulb. I personally like the blue bulbs best but they burn out faster than the red ones for some reason.

I just moved my whole collection into one heated room so I did away with all che and heat bulbs. I still have lights for day time but I plan on getting LED lights for day and night for a cleaner appearance.

the week before sorry. been busy and got my days all mixed. i got her in January. She didn't eat last Saturday which was when the breeder said she usually ate so ill try again this Saturday

Yeah, not eating the Saturday you got her is perfectly normal, she was probably pretty stressed from the move. All very normal.

As to lighting, I myself just keep a 24hr red bulb. Illuminates the tank just fine and I don't need to worry about day/night cycles. His day cycle is 'When I am home and in the living room.' XD

the great thing about pet rocks is that you don't need to worry about temps, humidity and cage cleaning. heck, you don't even need a cage!
