Thawing out a rat pup

I have a quick question. I thawed out a rat pup yesterday for my smallest ball python. I ended up not feeding it to my girl because it is very windy out here in PA where I live. I did not want to risk feeding my little girl in the event of a power outage. The last thing I want to worry about is a regurgitation and having my little one get sick. I don't think I will attempt to feed her tonight either because it is supposed to be very windy until Monday afternoon with a -3 degree temperature range tonight. How long can I keep this thawed out rat pup in my fridge before it starts to break down? I am prepared for an outage for the most part but I will NOT risk a feeding when there is the possibility of losing power.

Well, your freezer at the moment must still be powered, because you haven't experienced a power outage as of yet. I suggest you put the rat in a little tub or a bag that you can seal and place it in the freezer. That way, you can probably get the rat frozen in time, even if a power outage occurs. Then, even with the outage, it's likely to stay cool enough in the freezer for the rat not to thaw out. Also, wise move not to feed. :)

Well, it's better to take the chance to freeze the rat, otherwise it's just going to potentially go to waste. I hope that a power outage doesn't occur and you stay safe.

Thanks. We are holding our own here and getting by pretty well. We have our fingers crossed and are prepared just in case.
